Ranch Cryogenics needed to document a cryogenic plant in North Canton before relocation to Florida for a project supporting SpaceX operations. Older processing plants often have incomplete records of interconnected piping, equipment, and field modifications — and because skids would be moved and connecting lines rebuilt or replaced, the team needed reliable existing-conditions geometry to support relocation planning, fabrication, and long-term reference.
Coreskan spent approximately one winter week capturing the plant with Matterport imaging and high-precision Leica laser scanning, targeting approximately one-eighth-inch accuracy. Fieldwork took place in temperatures of roughly 10°F, requiring heated equipment jackets, protective gear, and survey control suited to snow-covered conditions.
Initial capture deliverables followed in approximately two weeks. About a year later, Ranch returned to the archived dataset for an expanded six-week modeling and fabrication-documentation effort — plant systems, skids, and piping were developed into an LOD 350 Revit model, with interconnected piping advanced to fabrication-level LOD 400.
Coreskan also produced 2D CAD isometrics with fittings, weld information, bills of materials, and project-specific specifications — alongside the virtual tour, drone orthomosaic, 3D model, and asset report.
Services Delivered
Seven coordinated services, spanning the original capture and the expanded fabrication-documentation effort.
3D Virtual Tours
High-fidelity remote reference and stakeholder communication.
3D Laser Scanning
Precise plant geometry and enduring source data.
Aerial Mapping & Inspection
An orthomosaic and 3D site context.
Scan-to-BIM
An LOD 350 coordinated Revit model with selected piping advanced to LOD 400.
CAD Deliverables
Piping isometrics and fabrication-oriented drawings.
As-Built Documentation
Documentation of existing piping, skids, and equipment.
Custom Scope Solutions
Asset reporting and project-specific piping and weld documentation.
A Reusable Engineering Resource
The original capture became a reusable engineering resource when the fabrication requirement emerged approximately a year later. The model and isometrics supported off-site pipe preparation, material takeoffs, and coordination before field reassembly.
A Pre-Disassembly Record
The virtual tour preserves the plant exactly as it existed before teardown — a permanent visual baseline of equipment placement, circulation paths, and clearances, supporting reinstallation sequencing at the destination facility.
Discrepancies Identified Early
Teams could identify discrepancies against P&IDs and review plant conditions with remote stakeholders.
Informed Field Support
Field crews received informed support without reconstructing the existing layout from memory.
